A few people have asked, “What is that up front in the new organ pipe case?” It is called the “Ambry”. The Ambry is where the Holy Oils are kept. Before the new organ pipes were put in, the ambry was in the wall near the Tabernacle. Most people could not see it because it was flush to the side wall. We asked that there be a place in the new organ cabinet for the Holy Oils so they would be better seen. The Oils are blessed by the Archbishop during Holy Week and brought to each parish church to be placed in the Ambry on Holy Thursday. There are three oils: The Oil of Catechumens used in Baptism, the Oil of the Sick used in the Anointing of the Sick, and the Oil of Chrism used in the Sacraments of Baptism, Confirmation and Priesthood. The Oil of Chrism is also used to consecrate altars. Please feel free to come forward and take a close look.
