Angel Food Ministries
We have all noticed how high our grocery bills have gotten! It seems like we cannot get out of the store without spending over $100. In these tough economic times, we would like to bring to your attention a new way to put food on the table – Angel Food Ministries. After meeting with the host site coordinators and seeing other parishes launch this ministry, we are happy to pass on this information to our own parishioners. There are no gimmicks or conditions attached! Perhaps some of you are already familiar with Angel Food Ministries.
What is Angel Food Ministries? Angel Food Ministries is a non-profit, non-denominational organization dedicated to providing grocery relief and financial support to communities throughout the
Through Angel Food Ministries you can purchase Grade A food for less than 50% of store cost. Angel Food has a wide variety of food with different menus available each month consisting of both fresh and frozen items with an average value of about $60. One unit of food averages about $30.00 and assists in feeding a family of four for about one week or a single senior citizen for almost one month. There is even a “senior box” available developed to meet the dietary needs of senior citizens providing 3 oz. of protein, a starch and two vegetables or fruit. Just heat and serve. A Senior Box is not limited, however, to just a specific age group; anyone can order.
The food is all the same high quality one could purchase at a grocery store. There are no second-hand items, no damaged or out-dated goods, no dented cans without labels, no day-old breads and no produce that is almost too ripe. Also offered are specialty boxes such as steaks, chicken and pork. There is no limit to the number of units or bonus foods an individual can purchase.
What are the Qualifications or requirements of ordering? There are no qualifications, minimums, income restrictions, or applications. Payment is made at the time of order by cash, money order or food stamps. There is a monthly order deadline and an assigned pick up. Groceries are carried out of the building for you.
What is the Simply to provide low cost good quality food to the community. $1.00 is kept for every box sold to pay for the cost of the truck for shipping. That is all!
This is a ministry of Heritage United Pentecostal Church and a positive way to reach our community. Angel Food coordinators are Homer and Mary McLaughlin. They can be reached at 860-585-6678 or www.heritageupc.org. You owe it to yourself to check it out – then decide.
