Open Forum Suggestions Responses October 17, 2009

Request that old Worship Hymnals be distributed to interest people

Shortly after the receipt of the New Hymnals “Journey Song” the Worship Hymnals were placed in the vestibule. Anyone interested was able to obtain one of the hymnals.

Consider holding the Open Forum meetings in the Spring and Fall due to weather considerations

The Parish Council was well in agreement to this suggestion.  In May 2009 the Council bylaws were revised to include the Annual meeting to be held the first full weekend of June and an October meeting will be scheduled to follow a Saturday vigil Mass and will be in the form of an Open Forum with all parishioners invited to participate.

A request to have English bulletins at the 12:00 noon Spanish Mass

At the beginning of September, editors of our Parish Bulletin initiated a process to include bilingual announcements eliminating the need for a separate Spanish/English bulletin.  At present, the staff is considering additional feature changes to both enhance the information presentation and content to be inclusive of our multicultural parish.

Steps at the top of the right aisle need new tape to highlight them to prevent people from falling

As simple as this request may seem a long term solution that kept with the aesthetics of the Church needed to be considered.  New reflective material has been applied to the marble steps and exit in the Church.

A request regarding monetary contributions for the Meals for the Needy

The Meals for the Needy collection baskets are left unattended in the vestibule during the Celebration of the Eucharist. It is therefore prudent not to tempt anyone and leave cash donations prior to Mass.  It is recommended that donations be made as we exit the building.  To ensure that they are deposited for their intended purpose, the donations are collected by the Celebrant immediately following all Masses.

A request was made for more prayers for vocations

An effort is being made to add a prayer for vocations to the intercessions several times a month.

Parking issues

Periodic reminders in bulletin and from the pulpit regarding Handicap parking and more considerate parking have been made.  In addition, following the change in Religious Education schedule, student family specific parking arrangements have been made.  Parish volunteers are available in the parking lots at 9 and 10:30 Masses to alleviate traffic congestion and ensure the safety of our students during busy Mass times.

Lighting in front of Church especially in the Fall and Winter

The new signage in front of the Church allowed for the rearrangement of the spotlights illuminating the Church.  It is hoped that the new placement will eliminate the brightness that hindered safe egress from the front doors.

Handrail placement on the front steps of the Church

The Building and Grounds Committee followed up on a suggestion initiated at a Parish meeting and had the center handrail on the front steps removed.

Can young people do readings and collections one Sunday a month?

Starting this month (October) students from both the Religious Education Confirmation Classes and  the 6th, 7th, and 8th grade St Joseph School students will be utilized as Cantors, Lectors, greeters and collectors on one weekend a month.  The students will be participating in these ministries at the 9 and 10:30 Masses.
