Time, Talent and Treasure

Stewardship Prayer

We gather today as a community of faithful stewards grateful for all that you have given us. As we continue on our stewardship journey together, guide our hands as we tend to Your garden, lift our voices as we proclaim Your words and encourage us as we work to build Your Kingdom.

As stewards we recognize that we are one family of faith, a community brought together to share in the Eucharist. May we give back to you in gratitude for the countless blessings you give to us.

Bless us and make us passionate stewards. May we leave here inspired by the many resources that our gifted brothers and sisters have taken the time to share with us tonight.

We ask this through Jesus Christ, Your son, our Lord, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, now and forever.

Amen

International Catholic Stewardship Conference

Scholarship Award Form

April 21, 2008

Submitted by:

Saint Joseph Parish

Bristol, CT

The Saint Joseph Parish Stewardship Committee is pleased to submit this Scholarship Award Form and would like to express our appreciation to the Archdiocese of Hartford Office of Stewardship for its consideration.

Saint Joseph Parish was founded over 140 years ago. From its very beginning, the Parish has been abundantly blessed with parishioners committed to giving freely of their time, talents and treasures to build a faith community filled with the love of Christ, His church, its members and surrounding community.

Today, under the gentle, spiritual guidance and encouragement of our Pastor, Father Joseph DiSciacca, Stewardship continues to grow as an integral part of our Parish community. Stewardship flows throughout the Parish by the organization of over 40 Ministry Committees overseen by our Stewardship Committee. It is our stated goal “to have every family involved in at least one area of witness and service through our Parish community”.

Special effort is made to include Stewardship in the teaching and enrichment of the faith formation of our Parish children both in our Religious Education and Elementary School programs. Stewardship is also emphasized in Father Joe’s adult education programs.

Parishioner participation in Stewardship ministries is encouraged through the weekly bulletin, homilies, announcements at mass, displays in the church vestibule, booths at Parish gatherings and, of course, through parishioner to parishioner contacts. An annual dinner party is held to recognize and express appreciation to all ministry members for their participation and achievements and, also, to recommit ourselves to Stewardship. This year, we are so very proud to have one of our parishioners, Kay Broderick, recognized for her many years of service by being awarded the Archdiocesan Medal.

An extraordinary blessing to our Saint Joseph Parish and our Stewardship activities is our Spanish Community. Begun several years ago, this small group has grown to a vibrant community of several hundred, bringing with them their exciting cultural and religious traditions. The acceptance on the part of both the English and Spanish speaking communities has allowed a blending to occur. Going far beyond just two languages; prayers, music, traditions, laughter and tears are being shared.

This blending of the two cultures has provided us an opportunity to further consider approaches to a “Universal” Parish. As the community in which we live becomes more and more diverse it becomes paramount that we as a Parish create an environment that is welcoming and caring to each and every person who arrives at our door regardless of their language, culture or nationality. They must be allowed to enter into Jesus’ Church knowing that the people that surround them, love them.

Attending the International Catholic Stewardship Conference would not only allow us to discuss Stewardship programs and plans with other active parishes around the country but also to seek out and gain insight from others addressing the issues towards our goal of a “Universal Parish”.

Respectively submitted,

Stewardship Committee Co-Chairpersons
